Reading the clue dots
Somewhere hidden is a secret code made of four colored pegs, and colors can repeat. Your job is to work out the exact code. To make a guess, tap colors from the palette to fill the four slots, then press Check guess. For each guess you get clue dots. A dark dot means one of your colors is the right color and in the right place. A light dot means a color is in the code but you put it in the wrong place. The clues do not say which color is which, so you must use careful thinking to narrow it down. Crack the code before you run out of guesses.
Working from colors to positions
A good opening move is to learn which colors are even in the code before you worry about order, so spend an early guess or two sampling different colors and count the dots each one returns. Once a color is confirmed to belong, shuffle its position between guesses and watch for a light dot turning dark, which pins it to the right spot. The real skill is bookkeeping: hold on to what each guess proved, and cross off every arrangement the dots have already ruled out.
