Catch the words before they land

Words drift down from the top of the play area. To pop a word, type it correctly before it reaches the bottom. Start by pressing the first letter of any word you can see, which locks you onto it, then type the rest of its letters in order. When you complete a word it bursts and you score a point. If a word slips past the bottom you lose a life, and the game ends when all three lives are gone. The longer you play, the faster the words fall, so keep your eyes moving.

Typing without looking down

Always go for the lowest word first, since it is the one about to slip past. The real goal, though, is to stop glancing at your hands and trust your fingers to find the letters, because looking down costs the split second a falling word will not give you. When the pace picks up, resist the urge to panic-type; one clear letter at a time clears words faster than a flurry of mistakes, and every word you complete buys back a little time.

Why a bit of pressure helps

The falling words add a gentle jolt of urgency, and that is the point: a mild deadline pushes a child to stop hunting and pecking and start letting the fingers do the finding, which is the leap that makes real typing fast. It also sharpens the habit of reading a word and typing it as one smooth burst rather than letter by hesitant letter. Because it is genuinely exciting, children come back to it, and the practice piles up almost by accident. Frequently asked questions

How do you play Falling Words?

Words fall down from the top. Type a word fully and correctly before it reaches the bottom to pop it. Start by typing the first letter of any falling word, then finish the rest. Clear words to score and do not let too many slip past.

How do you lock onto a falling word?

Press the first letter of any word you can see, and the game locks you onto that word, so the rest of your letters go to it until you finish it or it falls. This means you cannot accidentally spread your typing across several words at once, which keeps things clear when the screen fills up.

What happens when a word reaches the bottom?

You lose one of your three lives, and once all three are gone the game ends. That gentle penalty gives the game its urgency without being harsh, since a single missed word never ends the run. The words also fall faster the longer you last, so a strong game is really a race between your speed and theirs.
