About the Mahjong Game
Mahjong Solitaire is a matching game played with a stack of decorated tiles. It looks busy at first, but the idea is simple. You find two tiles that are exactly the same and take them off the board as a pair. Keep clearing pairs until the whole board is empty, and you have won. It is a calm, thinky game that a child can dip into for five minutes or settle into for a longer sitting.
The one rule to learn is which tiles you are allowed to use. A tile is free when nothing is stacked on top of it and at least one of its sides, left or right, has no tile touching it. Free tiles look bright and blocked tiles look faded, so you can always see your options at a glance. Tap a free tile to pick it up, then tap its twin to clear the pair. If you change your mind, tap the same tile again to put it down. Because clearing a pair opens up the tiles underneath and beside it, the order you take pairs in really matters.
Never get stuck: hints and shuffle
Every board we deal can be finished, so there is always a way through. If you cannot spot a move, tap Hint and the game highlights a matching pair for you. On the rare turn where no free pair is left on the board, tap Shuffle and the game rearranges the tiles that remain into a fresh layout that can still be cleared. Undo takes back your last pair if you want a second look, and you can switch between Easy, Medium and Hard whenever you like. Nobody has to wipe the board and start over out of frustration.
Why Mahjong is good for kids
Mahjong quietly builds visual matching, memory and planning. A child scans a crowded board for a pair, then thinks a step ahead about which pair to clear first so the board keeps opening up. It rewards patience and looking before leaping, and the matching itself is great for younger players who are still learning to spot small differences between similar shapes. It is a screen calm kind of game, easy to pause and come back to.
Frequently asked questions
How do you play Mahjong?
You clear the board by matching pairs of identical tiles and taking them off. You can only use a tile that is free, which means nothing is stacked on top of it and either its left or its right side is open. Tap one free tile, then tap its match, and both disappear. Clear every tile to win. Free tiles show up bright, and the ones that are blocked look faded.
What if I get stuck with no moves left?
You never have to start over. Tap Hint and the game points out a matching pair you can take. If there really are no free matches left, tap Shuffle and the game mixes the tiles that are still on the board into a fresh set up that can always be finished.
Is this Mahjong game free?
Yes. Mahjong is free with no download and no sign-up, and it works on phones, tablets and computers. Pick Easy, Medium or Hard, and tap New Game for a brand new board that is always solvable.
